In 2012 I won an award of a lifetime. I was to go to New York to the School of Visual Arts as part of the PhotoGlobal program. A friend, Jane, said she would like to see me work with the relationship between myself and my dog Jim. She suggested it because I was about to leave him behind and set off for 2 years. I was struggling with separating from him as he was 12, nearly 13 years old. I had photographed Jimi his entire life but none of them did any justice to our relationship. I started to draw him, with a clutch pencil, making animations of him meditating on time. I worked in the photography studios in the 23rd Street SVA photography building and ended up doing a course on storyboarding for animation. And so began my relationship with the connection between photography and drawing.
